{"id":379255,"date":"2025-08-28T03:03:24","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T03:03:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/379255\/"},"modified":"2025-08-28T03:03:24","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T03:03:24","slug":"ruben-amorim-says-something-has-to-change-after-manchester-united-loss-at-grimsby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/379255\/","title":{"rendered":"Ruben Amorim says \u2018something has to change\u2019 after Manchester United loss at Grimsby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ruben Amorim says \u201csomething has to change\u201d after Manchester United\u2019s players \u201cclearly showed what they want\u201d in a shock Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.<\/p>\n<p>Charles Vernam and Tyrell Warren scored two goals in the space of eight first-half minutes for the fourth-tier hosts, but late goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire took the tie to penalties.<\/p>\n<p>After an epic penalty shootout, Grimsby advanced to the third round with a 12-11 victory after Matheus Cunha saw his spot kick saved and Mbeumo hit the post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the players spoke really loudly about what they want today,\u201d Amorim <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/itvfootball\/status\/1960829554727002437\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">told ITV Sport after the match<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cSomething has to change and you\u2019re not going to change 22 players again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in his post-game press conference, Amorim added:\u00a0\u201cI would like to say very smart things and very important things. I have nothing to say. Nothing to say.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is the biggest problem also. To see the same mistakes and nothing to say in this moment. I\u2019m really sorry for our fans. It\u2019s too much sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6379454\/2025\/05\/25\/manchester-united-amorim-ratcliffe-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6379454\/2025\/05\/25\/manchester-united-amorim-ratcliffe-season\/\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\">The Athletic reported last season<\/a> that in February some observers got the impression Amorim was seriously contemplating walking away, such was his frustration with the performances and working environment. Around this time he also said that the sack can be \u201cliberating\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Amorim received assurances on transfer targets and future plans from chief executive Omar Berrada and technical director Jason Wilcox, key figures of communication for co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and stayed.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the season, Amorim said on the Old Trafford pitch that \u201cthe good days are coming\u201d and over the summer United invested heavily in new attackers but he was damning of his team after the defeat by Grimsby.<\/p>\n<p>The United head coach said the defeat was \u201cmore than a result\u201d after being asked if it was a continuation of the problems that had seen his side record a 15th-place league finish in 2024-25.<\/p>\n<p>In his post-match interview on Sky Sports, Amorim said Grimsby were \u201cthe only team on the pitch\u201d and repeatedly said that his players \u201cspoke really loud\u201d with their performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe started the game without any intensity, the idea of the pressure. We were completely lost, it is hard to explain. That\u2019s why I think they spoke really loud.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you lose but you see something new, its different.
