{"id":379544,"date":"2025-08-28T05:36:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T05:36:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/379544\/"},"modified":"2025-08-28T05:36:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T05:36:10","slug":"more-than-100-children-sign-up-to-devon-book-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/379544\/","title":{"rendered":"More than 100 children sign up to Devon book challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">A summer reading challenge has been a success after more than 100 children signed up to it, organisers have said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Buckfastleigh Library, in Devon, said the Book Quest challenge required children to complete three tasks &#8211; read as often as possible for at least 10 minutes, visit a library, and take part in a sea-themed activity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Librarian Megan Cooper said: &#8220;We are creating a space that they feel comfortable and happy in, and they can have a little look and find what really inspires them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Elodie and Rowan, both aged nine, said they loved reading and the event had allowed them to read &#8220;lots of different books about lots of different things&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Ms Cooper said: &#8220;It&#8217;s been proven children who choose their own books are much more likely to enjoy reading.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The library has also been running events alongside the reading challenge, such as craft workshops and talks by Devon Wildlife Trust.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Ms Cooper said: &#8220;You can read in the car, to your dog or to you family.
