This follows the retrospective consent given to The Famous Spiegeltent who had only applied for permission in mid June ahead of a build which began at the end of that month. This in turn follows the problems which arose a few years back when it was discovered that producers Underbelly had no permission for the build for the Christmas and Hogmanay festivals. <\/p>\n<p>The motion reads: \u201cCouncil:<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Thanks officers, for their ongoing work in assessing and processing planning applications for the city\u2019s fringe and other summer festivals.<\/p>\n<p>2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Notes that while most applicants aim to submit their applications on time, some do not.<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Agrees that, as good practice, all festival organisers should be communicated with and encouraged to complete and submit their applications at the start of April each year.<\/p>\n<p>4)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Recognises that this timetable allows sufficient time for officers to:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Review applications in\u00a0detail;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Request any further information; and<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Enable the Development Management Sub Committee to review and reach a decision before the summer recess.<\/p>\n<p>5)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Acknowledges that while retrospective approvals can be granted, this is not best practice and may have a detrimental impact\u2014particularly where construction could be required to be removed once shows have commenced.<\/p>\n<p>6)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Agrees to receive a Business Bulletin update to the Planning Committee setting out:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The outcomes of discussions with festival\u00a0organisers;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Detail any sanctions and actions that Council can take against late\u00a0applications;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Any lessons learned or forward planning measures that can be implemented for future years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Responding to Sandra at Craigmillar Now<\/p>\n<p>Responding to Sandra with Zoe Lorimer &amp; Hazel Peters\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Saturday 30t August, 2-4pm<br \/>Event Address: Craigmillar Now, 58 Newcraighall Rd, Edinburgh EH15 3HS<br \/>Contact: Zoe (<a href=\"http:\/\/theedinburghreporter.co.uk\/cdn-cgi\/l\/email-protection#55223a273e263d3a2526153627343c32383c393934273b3a227b363a38\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">[email\u00a0protected]<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Join us for a creative and reflective afternoon inspired by the Sandra George archive! It may also be your local park, the venue where you saw the best gig you\u2019ve ever been to, or the place you picture when you think of home. Heritage makes our communities special and it\u2019s everything we inherit from the past that shapes who we are today as well as influencing our future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d love to hear about the places that matter most to you,\u201d said Elly McCrone, Director of Heritage.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019d like to understand what you\u2019d like to see protected and how you\u2019d like those places to be looked after so that we can ensure that our heritage continues to enrich our lives for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The consultation is open to everyone \u2013 young people, older people, business owners, volunteers, parents, New Scots, those who love heritage, and those with no strong feelings about heritage but who care about their surroundings.
