James [McDonald] liked it,” Waller said. “He had a flat spot on a couple of wet spots [on the track], and he’s finished off well. He has matured as a three-year-old, so forget his two-year-old form. He’s a new horse.”

Flying Artie colt Sixties is the new horse on the scene and is coming off a seven-length midweek win.

“He was super impressive in his maiden win … it will be an interesting race,” Waller said.

Wodeton and Beiwacht return after high-profile two-year-old seasons. Wodeton, a $1.6 million son of Wootton Bassett, was a long-time Golden Slipper favourite before finishing a close second to Marhoona. Beiwacht, the Silver Slipper winner, has since joined Waller after Godolphin’s move to public trainers.

Waller said Wodeton’s “first target” was the 1400m Golden Rose, and he would be vulnerable over 1100m.

“He’s matured nicely, and he’s furnished into a lovely three-year-old,” he said.

“A bit short, the 1100, but this time of year anything can happen if you just use the Run To The Rose as your lead-up race to Golden Rose. You miss that, you’re buggered.

“I’m reluctant to be running him over 1100, but I think it’s an important race for him into the Golden Rose. I want to do things properly with him and see him finishing off. For him to win they have to overdo it in front.

Loading

“Wootton Bassett is just doing amazing things in Europe and what they’re also doing, and we don’t see it a lot in Australia, he’s leaving them over all distances, so that might just help them stretch out to the Guineas.”

Beiwacht, which has drawn the widest on Saturday, won the Silver Slipper from a tricky barrier at the track and over the distance, but Waller was keeping expectations in check.

“Although he’s an 1100-metre group 2 winner, he’s still a long way away from the big target,” he said. “I just want to learn a bit more about him.”

Waller said Via Sistina had recovered well from her successful Winx Stakes defence last week at Randwick, where Autumn Glow (Toy Show Quality) and Lazzura (Show County Quality) also won. He said she was likely to race in the Makybe Diva and Turnbull Stakes at Flemington before her Cox Plate defence at Moonee Valley.

Zoustar colt Fermoy, a $1.9 million Coolmore buy, did not break through in three two-year-old starts, then was…

[4107
1071,79,16,15
0":"post-379691","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-racing","8":"tag-racing","9":"tag-sports","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
