{"id":379790,"date":"2025-08-28T07:54:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T07:54:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/379790\/"},"modified":"2025-08-28T07:54:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T07:54:12","slug":"yellow-lines-on-hendon-road-criticised-as-bad-idea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/379790\/","title":{"rendered":"Yellow lines on Hendon road criticised as &#8216;bad idea&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Barnet Council is proposing painting double yellow lines on three junctions along Shirehall Lane as well as single yellow lines, operating Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm, opposite a school further down.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A petition calling on the council to \u201creconsider\u201d the plans was launched this month and will run until October. So far, it has 11 signatures.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The prohibitions, if approved, will make waiting restricted at all times on the junctions of Mayfield Gardens, Park View Gardens and Elms Avenue.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Waiting will also be prohibited opposite Hasmonean Primary School from Monday to Friday between 8am and 6.30pm.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Chaim Stanton, a local resident, said the parking restrictions would undermine the \u201charmonious, caring\u00a0community\u201d in the area.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He said: \u201cThere will be insufficient parking for residents, and additional yellow lines would unnecessarily increase friction between neighbours and parents dropping children at school.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Chaim added the presence of parked cars at street corners and opposite the school made the area \u201csafer\u201d by \u201cslowing down traffic\u201d.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Instead, residents proposed repainting the faded yellow lines outside Hendon Park, part of which runs down Shirehall Lane, issuing more fines, removing illegally parked vehicles and abandoned cars as another way to control traffic.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Chaim added residents would prefer if the council used its powers to \u201cremove obstructive parking\u201d blocking dropped curbs and street corners.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He said: \u201cIf changes must go ahead, consider extremely limited time-restricted measures for example, Monday to Friday, 9.30 am to 4.30pm, instead of \u2018at any time\u2019 restrictions.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In response to enquiries, a council spokesperson said: \u201cMeasures are being proposed following concerns raised about obstructive parking around Hasmonean Primary School.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWe held a statutory consultation on these measures from July 24 to August 14.
