Big tailbacks have built up on a major motorway near Birmingham<\/a> following an early-morning crash.<\/p>\n It happened on the southbound carriageway of the M6 between Junction seven, for Great Barr, and six, Spaghetti Junction, shortly before 7am on Thursday, August 28.<\/p>\n Initially National Highways closed three of the four lanes of the motorway after the crash led to a fuel spill.<\/p>\n READ MORE: Robber threatens staff with weapon at city shop \u2013 CCTV appeal<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Get breaking news on <\/strong>BirminghamLive WhatsApp<\/strong><\/a>, click the link to join<\/strong><\/p>\n There were delays of 45 minutes and tailbacks stretching for five miles.<\/p>\n But the agency confirmed two of the three closed lanes later opened, with one remaining closed.<\/p>\n West Midlands Ambulance Service<\/a> and police traffic officers are at the scene.<\/p>\n The single lane closure still led to long delays with National Highways saying: \u201cDelays of 30 minutes on the approach, five miles of congestion, almost back to J9 Wednesbury.\u201d<\/p>\n Traffic information service Inrix said there were also delays in the other direction, possibly due to drivers looking at the incident.<\/p>\n![\"The](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0_M6-congestion-2.jpg\")
