A prominent Liverpool politician has been hospitalised after a serious accident. Councillor Tom Crone, the leader of the Liverpool Green Party was injured in a recent incident, his party confirmed.<\/p>\n

Cllr Crone<\/a> represents the St Michaels ward on Liverpool City Council<\/a> and is the leader of the three-strong Green group on Liverpool City Council. He has been an elected councillor since 2014. The Liverpool Green Party<\/a> has released a statement confirming that their leader<\/a> was hospitalised following what was described as a “serious accident.”<\/p>\n

A party spokesperson said: “Liverpool Green Party wishes to inform residents and stakeholders that Councillor Tom Crone, who represents St Michael\u2019s Ward and serves as Leader of the Green group on Liverpool City Council, has recently suffered a serious accident that required a stay in hospital.<\/p>\n

“Cllr Crone<\/a> is now commencing a period of convalescence.<\/p>\n

“During this time, the extent of his availability for council duties will be necessarily reduced as he focuses on making a full recovery.”<\/p>\n

In the statement, the Greens<\/a> said Cllr Crone had expressed his “deep gratitude to the NHS staff who cared for him throughout his stay in hospital.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson added: “He has spoken warmly of the professionalism, compassion and kindness shown to him in Aintree<\/a> Hospital.”<\/p>\n

The Greens <\/a>said that while Cllr Crone’s recovery remains the priority, he is “committed to continuing to serve the people of St Michaels ward.<\/p>\n

He will also continue to support the work of the Green group on Liverpool City Council where he is able to, the party said.<\/p>\n

The party added: “Liverpool Green Party thanks residents and colleagues for their understanding and support while Tom regains his strength.”<\/p>\n

Further details of the incident which led to Cllr Crone’s stay in hospital have not been revealed.<\/p>\n

Originally from Norfolk, Cllr Crone has become a well known face of Liverpool’s political scene through his leadership of the city’s Green Party over the last decade.<\/p>\n
