Manchester United were stunned by League Two Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, with manager Ruben Amorim apologising<\/a> to the fans at Blundell Park for an unexpected early exit. Some fans in the Manchester Evening News comments section<\/a> think that Amorim is not going to be sticking around for much longer based on his side’s current form.<\/p>\n Goalkeeper Andre Onana was beaten twice in quick succession in the first half, forcing Amorim into bringing on more of his first-choice league starters to rescue the game after half-time. Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire scored to give United’s squad a chance to spare their blushes, but a lengthy penalty shootout ended in defeat for the visitors.<\/p>\n With no European competition this year, that leaves the FA Cup<\/a> as the only serious prospect of United challenging for silverware this season.<\/p>\n When asked what went wrong<\/a>, Amorim said: “Everything. The way we started the game, we were not even here. When everything is so important in our club, everything that happened, it’s a problem in our club, we should do so much better. I just have to say sorry to our fans.<\/p>\n “I felt my players spoke really loud today what they want. I think it’s easy for you [how to interpret it]. Let’s focus on the next game and then we have the stop for the international games. This system will never work for whatever reason.”<\/p>\n John198 writes: “Every team we\u2019ve played since Amorim was appointed has been better coached and drilled than us. Not a single United player looks comfortable in this system. Amorim in my eyes is a poor manager.<\/p>\n “Good managers are able to to adapt to what\u2019s happening in the game, or to the squad of players he\u2019s got available. Amorim doesn\u2019t, he persists with playing square pegs in round holes all to prove his system. It\u2019s time to go, do the honourable thing and resign.”<\/p>\n Seanguitar says: “Alex Ferguson<\/a> went three and a half years at United before winning anything, but at least you could see the team was improving during that time.
