Oliver Glasner failed to be drawn on the future of Liverpool target Marc Guehi but said they ‘will see’ what’s to come as speculation intensifies. The Reds are interested in the England defender but face a hurdle in signing the Palace captain as they face losing him on a free next summer.<\/p>\n
Reports have surfaced recently that the South London club are eyeing Manchester City stopper Manuel Akanji as Guehi’s replacement at Selhurst Park. Despite Liverpool winning the race to sign highly-rated Italian defender Giovanni Leoni, the 25-year-old has been seen as an opportunistic arrival with the Reds having the potential to land an international-capped defender<\/a> with a wealth of experience in England’s top-flight.<\/p>\n Arne Slot’s side<\/a> face a race against the clock to sign Guehi with the transfer window shutting on September 1. Equally, if Palace were to sell the defender, they would have limited time to acquire a replacement but reports of contingency plans suggest that there are moving parts to Liverpool signing the defender.<\/p>\n READ MORE: Liverpool Champions League draw in full as Trent Alexander-Arnold reunion confirmed<\/a>READ MORE: Liverpool transfer news LIVE – Marc Guehi update, Alexander Isak latest, Kostas Tsimikas exit<\/a><\/p>\n Guehi was named in the starting 11 and captained Palace in their second-leg against the Norwegian outfit Fredrikstad<\/a> as they looked to see out their slender one-goal lead from the first leg – which would be enough to see them through to the UEFA Conference League group stages.<\/p>\n “It’s very important but it wasn’t a birthday wish, I was speaking to Marc every single day it was clear he goes with us to Norway and play this game then let’s see what will come,” said the Austrian Glasner.<\/p>\n “We rely on Marc and count on him, he’s our captain, he will lead the team on the pitch and hopefully getting the win and going into the Group Stage of the Conference League.”<\/p>\n Liverpool have started off the campaign in shaky fashion, conceding four goals in their opening two matches and squandering two goal leads in each of their opening encounters in their Premier League<\/a> title defence.<\/p>\n Ibrahima Konate is into the final year of his contract in L4 and his difficult start has led to criticism, namely from former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher<\/a>.<\/p>\n He said on Monday: “Konate is another one. He has been all over the place. You want your centre back to go with him and win that header.<\/p>\n “He\u2019s going backwards but he should deal with that. He\u2019s up against Dan Burn and Gravenberch goes on the run. I want my centre back to go and win that.<\/p>\n “He was all over the place last week – he was more interested in grabbing his arm. He was really poor in the first half as well.
