Sony is planning a PlayStation 6 handheld with Nintendo Switch-style television docking capabilities, it\u2019s claimed.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s according to Moore\u2019s Law is Dead<\/a>, a YouTube channel that has previously leaked accurate technical info on PlayStation<\/a> consoles before their announcement.<\/p>\n In a new video, MLiD shares specific technical specifications for the \u2018PS6 handheld\u2019, which will reportedly release alongside a traditional, more powerful PlayStation 6 home console, which it says is based on \u201cup to date\u201d documentation from graphics partner AMD.<\/p>\n Notably, Moore\u2019s Law says it\u2019s seen \u201cmultiple documents\u201d that \u201cdirectly call out\u201d that the planned PlayStation 6 portable can be docked like a Nintendo Switch<\/a>, and claims that it will be capable of playing games natively at power exceeding that of the base PlayStation 5<\/a> when docked.<\/p>\n The PlayStation 6 portable will reportedly feature an AMD APU featuring four Zen 6c Cores, and two further cores dedicated entirely to system tasks. In addition, PS6 is said to feature a 16 x RDNA 5 CUs GPU clocked at 1.2GHz in handheld mode, and 1.65GHz docked.<\/p>\n Moore\u2019s Law is Dead speculates based on specification costs that the PS6 handheld could retail for around $500, and release in late 2027.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Sony<\/a> hasn\u2019t launched a native gaming handheld since PS Vita<\/a> in 2011. A portable accessory for PlayStation 5, PlayStation Portal, was released in 2023, but it\u2019s not capable of playing games natively.<\/p>\n It was first reported by\u00a0Reuters<\/a>\u00a0last year that Sony had contracted AMD to design and fabricate the PlayStation 6\u2019s chip<\/a>, due to the company\u2019s prioritisation of backwards compatibility.<\/p>\n AMD also created the custom system on a chip (SoC) for\u00a0PlayStation 5\u00a0and PS5 Pro, and according to Reuters, this was a crucial point in\u00a0Sony\u2018s decision for\u00a0PlayStation\u00a06.<\/p>\n
