A body was discovered in a burnt out vehicle after emergency services were called to a coastal road in the early hours of the morning. Emergency crews were called to Mackworth Road in Porthcawl<\/a> this morning [Thursday, August 28] following reports of a blaze.<\/p>\n South Wales Police<\/a> [SWP]confirmed that once the fire, which involved multiple vehicles, was extinguished the body was discovered inside one of the vehicles.<\/a><\/p>\n Police were called to the scene, near the beachfront, at 2.50am, where a number of vehicles were destroyed by the fire. Following the incident a section of the street was cordoned off at around 3am for investigation.<\/p>\n Forensic officers attended the scene, with the area still cordoned off on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n There was also restricted pedestrian access across Mackworth Road from the Hi Tide complex to Coney Beach amusement park.<\/p>\n Mackworth Road is a residential street with homes leading to the rear of Coney Beach Amusement Park and Hi Tide Inn. Stay informed on Bridgend news by signing up to our newsletter here<\/a><\/p>\n A resident in one of the homes along the street said they heard “loud bangs” around the time the report was made to the police.<\/p>\n Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.<\/p>\n Formal identification has yet to take place to identify the deceased person.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for the force said: “We were called at 2.50am this morning, Thursday August 28, by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service reporting a fire incident involving multiple vehicles on Mackworth Road in Porthcawl.<\/p>\n “Once the fire was extinguished, emergency personnel discovered a deceased person inside one of the vehicles. Formal identification has yet to be carried out and the cause of the fire remains undetermined.<\/p>\n “A cordon remains in place both ways from Bungalow Avenue, which is about halfway down Mackworth Road, to the bottom of Mackworth Road by the beach.
