He posted a picture of himself up a\u00a0 ladder hanging a flag, and followed up with an opinion piece <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2025\/08\/21\/we-must-fight-the-councils-tearing-down-our-flags-and-denig\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in the right-leaning Telegraph<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2025\/08\/21\/we-must-fight-the-councils-tearing-down-our-flags-and-denig\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">newspaper<\/a> claiming people were \u201cmobilising to restore the country they know and love.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Filling the vacuum<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The movement could be a big test for Starmer, the embattled prime minister and leader of the center-left Labour Party.<\/p>\n<p>Since taking the reins of the party in 2020, Starmer has been at pains to insist he is \u201cproud of being patriotic,\u201d often appearing in front of a Union Jack flag and pointedly marking St. George\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n<p>The British prime minister, who has been on holiday, told journalists through his spokesman on Tuesday that he \u201csupports people who have got pride in our flag and our history and our values,\u201d pointing to the flags which are put up on Downing Street when England plays in international sporting tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>But Sunder Katwala, director of the think tank British Future, is wary.
