Stefanos Tsitsipas suffered another heartbreaking defeat on Thursday evening and didn\u2019t take it well\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

When Daniel Altmaier hit a backhand volley to secure his place in the third round of the US Open<\/a> with a 7-6, 1-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win, Tsitsipas wasn\u2019t best pleased.<\/p>\n

Confronting Altmaier at the net, Tsitsipas<\/a> complained about an underarm serve the German hit during the fourth set.<\/p>\n

\u201cNext time, don\u2019t wonder why I hit you, ok?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just saying, if you serve underarm\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Altmaier, who walked away from Tsitsipas, has now given his verdict on the Greek\u2019s conduct.<\/p>\n

Daniel Altmaier is \u2018not a fan\u2019 of net confrontations after Stefanos Tsitsipas incident<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters in the aftermath of his big second-round win, Altmaier told \u2018Bounces<\/a>\u2018 what he thought about the incident at the net.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, I know that sometimes in the heat of the moment you can say stuff which you don\u2019t normally like to say,\u201d said Altmaier.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou regret it afterwards. So I think we all know these discussions at the net; I\u2019m not a fan of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Altmaier argued he wouldn\u2019t have done the same as Tsitsipas had he lost the match.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if I would have lost, I would not enter discussions because it\u2019s just the heat of the moment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou need to cool down, let\u2019s see if he reacts to it or sticks to his opinion.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhich, for me, it\u2019s fine, I think I know what I did, and that\u2019s it. It\u2019s part of the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Underarm serves are indeed \u2018part of the game\u2019, as there are no rules stopping players from hitting the shot.<\/p>\n

It is, however, frowned upon by many, although that\u2019s a discussion for another day\u2026<\/p>\n

Altmaier will now turn his attention to the third round, where he will play Australia\u2019s Alex de Minaur<\/a>, a player he lost to earlier this year in Rotterdam.<\/p>\n

Tsitsipas, on the other hand, has some important decisions to make after suffering yet another early exit at a major in 2025.<\/p>\n

Tsitsipas didn\u2019t enjoy a brilliant Grand Slam campaign in 2024, winning just eight matches, his worst record since 2018.<\/p>\n

He would have hoped to make a step forward in 2025, but unfortunately for the Greek star, things got even worse.<\/p>\n

Stefanos Tsitsipas at Grand Slams in 2025<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old, who was once ranked as high as third in the world, is currently the 28th best player on the ATP Tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For all his struggles, you can\u2019t say Tsitsipas hasn\u2019t tried to make things work in 2025, as he made two big coaching moves this year.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the grass-court season, Tsitsipas hired Goran Ivanisevic<\/a>, a former Wimbledon champion, to his team.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, their partnership was not only short-lived, but unsuccessful and controversial as well, with Ivanisevic describing Tsitsipas as the most \u2018underprepared player\u2019<\/a> he\u2019d seen.<\/p>\n

After splitting with Ivanisevic, Tsitsipas reunited with his father, Apostolos Tsitsipas<\/a>, whom he had fired a year earlier.<\/p>\n

The two-time Grand Slam finalist may have expected the move to help him rediscover his form of old, although that hasn\u2019t been the case.<\/p>\n

Since bringing his father back into the fold in Canada, Tsitsipas has won just two of his six matches.<\/p>\n
