{"id":382593,"date":"2025-08-29T13:57:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-29T13:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/382593\/"},"modified":"2025-08-29T13:57:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-29T13:57:14","slug":"ecclestone-horner-and-briatore-at-alpine-f1-would-be-like-mafia-reunion-says-wolff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/382593\/","title":{"rendered":"Ecclestone, Horner and Briatore at Alpine F1 would be like &#8216;mafia reunion&#8217;, says Wolff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/team\/mercedes\/36495\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mercedes<\/a> boss Toto Wolff has joked it would be like a \u2018mafia reunion\u2019 should Christian Horner, Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore combine for an ownership stake in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/team\/alpine\/39174\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alpine<\/a> Formula 1 outfit.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/f1\/news\/christian-horner-sacked-as-red-bull-f1-team-boss\/10740708\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Horner was sacked as Red Bull team principal in July<\/a> and his next step is not yet known, but paddock rumours have suggested the 51-year-old is looking to invest in an F1 team.<\/p>\n<p>Alpine has been seen as a genuine possibility due to his friendship with executive adviser Briatore, who alongside ex-F1 boss Ecclestone may act as an investor backing Horner&#8217;s bid.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat would be an exciting story, I guess, and would create lots of buzz around Formula 1,\u201d said Wolff on Friday during the Dutch Grand Prix weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we need that. Formula 1 has always been about the best racing with exciting drivers and great personalities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel that when you look back at the grand era of team owners and team principals\u00a0\u2013 Frank <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/team\/williams\/36474\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Williams<\/a> and Ron Dennis, Flavio, [Luca di] Montezemolo and a few others\u00a0\u2013 maybe we need to work on that.<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/toto-wolff-mercedes.jpg\" alt=\"Toto Wolff, Mercedes\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">Toto Wolff, Mercedes<\/p>\n<p class=\"photographer\">Photo by: Sam Bloxham \/ LAT Images via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf there was such an exciting project, these three guys coming together, all of the mafia reunited, that would give good content.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/f1\/news\/f1-team-ownership-who-are-the-different-teams-owned-by\/10617806\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Renault Group owns a majority stake in the Alpine F1 team<\/a>, but 24% belongs to US-based investment firm Otro Capital, which includes several high-profile athletes like Anthony Joshua, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Rory McIlroy.
