That\u2019s slightly below expectations for a 0.6% bump but represented a slight pickup from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/07\/31\/economy\/us-pce-consumer-spending-inflation-june\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">0.4% increase notched in June<\/a>, according to FactSet consensus estimates.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmewty030000m3j6opf35qn2i@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            July is typically a month filled with summer sales events, notably Amazon\u2019s Prime Day, as well as a key month for back-to-school spending. However, spending on cars and financial services (bolstered by the strong stock market performance) drove the lion\u2019s share of last month\u2019s spending gains, Friday\u2019s report showed.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmewtodoc000f3j6o45yjcauj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            When factoring in inflation, spending rose 0.3% last month, an acceleration from a tepid 0.1% gain in June.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmewuhjye000z3j6ot6f2p5p6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cConsumer spending is solid, and goods inflation remains moderate for now as the tariff war has yet to slow the economy appreciably or lead to a worrisome outbreak of inflation that could worry markets,\u201d Chris Rupkey, FwdBonds chief economist, wrote Friday in a note to investors.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmewtbasv00053j6o7wniz94w@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The Personal Consumption Expenditures price index \u2014 the inflation gauge the Federal Reserve uses for its 2% target rate \u2014 rose 0.2% on a monthly basis, which kept the annual rate at 2.6%.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmewtyjyq000p3j6ow139o4nb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The core PCE price index, which excludes the volatile food and energy categories and is considered a better indicator of underlying inflation trends, rose 0.3% from June (matching the pace seen the prior month) and saw its annual rate accelerate to 2.9% from 2.8%.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmevr6kru00003b6nyq5fan41@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Stocks were lower Friday morning but pared some losses after the data release. Dow futures were down 100 points, or 0.21%. S&amp;P 500 futures fell 0.23% and Nasdaq 100 futures slid 0.44%.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmewtc546000a3j6oabks9hnm@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The July inflation data was right in line with what economists had expected.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmewu7egz000t3j6ooookcq12@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Solid income growth helped to provide fuel for resilient US consumers, whose spending powers more than two-thirds of America\u2019s economic activity.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmewutvix00143j6o309zc4h2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Personal income rose by 0.4% last month (marking an acceleration from 0.3% in June), a reflection of higher wage gains, the report showed.
