It also pushes back against accusations that its equipment carries a security risk.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The contract would have seen the \u201cinstallation of next-generation Huawei equipment in a public fibre optic mega-network of more than 16,000 kilometres that covers the entire Spanish territory\u201d, the newspaper reported.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The expansion would have, according to the tendering documents, helped bolster the network under pressure from \u201cthe progressive growth of traffic \u2026 mainly due to supercomputing projects\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The European Union has asked its member states to remove Huawei from their 5G networks, citing security concerns.
