But Michelin dining is a much more stripped back affair at one locally-owned Bristol restaurant, which Time Out has just named the best in the city right now.

It takes a lot to be named one of Time Out’s favourite restaurants. Our local experts know their cities inside out, so the places that come out on top have to be properly excellent – especially in a city like Bristol which is bursting with fantastic eateries. One unassuming Redland bistro, however, has just triumphed above the rest.

Wilson’s, a small-but-mighty joint on Chandos Road, has just been named Time Out’s favourite restaurant in Bristol, and for good reason. You wouldn’t know looking at its plain white walls and unpretentious menus that it was just awarded a Michelin star, but that’s part of what we love so much about it: nothing gets in the way of the cooking. As our Bristol expert Shonette Laffy put it: ‘some of the best and most creative cooking in the city is coming out of [this] cosy restaurant’.

Much of the produce at Wilson’s is grown in owners’ Jan and Mary Wilson’s own garden, and much of the poultry shot by chef Jan himself. Mary chooses the wine pairings, and boom – there you have it, exceptional quality food without the fuss.

The best part? You can sample the cooking here for only £35 if you head during lunchtime on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, when a budget set menu means anyone can live the Michelin life for a bit. Plus, Wilson’s has a commitment to sustainability proven by its Michelin green star.

Chandos Road has become somewhat of a hot spot for high-quality dining, with Wilson’s neighbour Little Hollows Pasta receiving a Michelin Bib Gourmand – celebrating top-notch cooking at affordable price points – this year as well.

More of Bristol with Time Out

It’s not just food that Bristol does well.
