Homes<\/a> and businesses across southern Scotland remain without water <\/a>for a fourth straight day after a fault at a treatment works left thousands of customers struggling.<\/p>\n

People in parts of the Borders were warned not to drink tap water after damage was discovered to a pipe at Rawburn Water Treatment Works on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Around 6,000 properties were affected initially, with normal supplies restored to 4,200 by Thursday.<\/p>\n

A further 1,800 homes <\/a>in areas including Duns, Eccles, Coldingham, Chirnside, Paxton, Coldstream, Burnmouth, Lamberton and Drone Hill were expected to have water back by Friday morning.<\/p>\n

Scottish Water<\/a> said it \u201cfully appreciates the inconvenience this disruption is still causing to some affected properties\u201d.<\/p>\n

John Griffen, water <\/a>operations general manager, said: \u201cWe are pleased to have restored normal supplies for the majority of the affected properties and will continue to work to do likewise for those still affected. We are focusing all of our efforts on the areas where there are still properties without water.<\/p>\n

\u201dWe would again like to apologise to all affected customers for the inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience and understanding as we work to resolve the matter for all properties.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bottled water <\/a>collection points have been set up, with the main one at Berwickshire High School.<\/p>\n
