He also claimed that 62 percent of key enterprises in \u201cUkraine\u2019s military-industrial complex\u201d suffered damage.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Emergency crews have completed rescue operations in the aftermath of a huge Russian drone and missile attack on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv in the early hours of Thursday, as authorities revised the death toll from the attack upward to 25.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Weapons<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The United States Department of State has approved the potential sale of Patriot air defence system sustainment and related equipment to Ukraine for an estimated cost of $179.1m, the Pentagon said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Peace talks<\/p>\n<ul class=\"spaced-bullet-spacing\">\n<li>Deadly missile and drone <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/8\/28\/massive-russian-attack-on-ukraines-kyiv-kills-at-least-4-dozens-hurt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">strikes on Ukraine<\/a> \u201ccast doubt on the seriousness of Russia\u2019s desire for peace\u201d, the US told the United Nations Security Council, warning that Washington could punish Moscow with economic measures if it continues the war.<\/li>\n<li>Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko told the UNSC that \u201cRussia continues to choose killing over ending the war\u201d with its continued attacks.<\/li>\n<li>Russia\u2019s deputy UN ambassador, Dmitry Polyanskiy, said Moscow was prepared to consider a summit with Ukraine \u201cprovided that there is thorough prior preparation for such a meeting and the substantive content of it; otherwise, it would simply not have any meaning\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Ukraine\u2019s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged allies to swiftly elevate talks on security guarantees for Ukraine to the level of leaders, as European Union defence ministers pledged to train Kyiv\u2019s troops on Ukrainian soil in the event of a truce with Russia.<\/li>\n<li>European defence ministers meeting in Copenhagen expressed \u201cbroad support\u201d for expanding the bloc\u2019s military training mission to operate inside Ukraine, the EU\u2019s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, said.<\/li>\n<li>President Zelenskyy said he expected to continue talks with European leaders next week on \u201cNATO-like\u201d commitments to protect Ukraine, adding that US President Donald Trump should also be involved in the discussions.<\/li>\n<li>The Ukrainian leader also said he wanted Ukraine\u2019s allies to ratify any security guarantees through their parliaments, invoking a 1994 deal in which Kyiv agreed to give up its nuclear arsenal in exchange for security assurances that proved insufficient to deter Russia\u2019s invasion.<\/li>\n<li>Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said proposals on security guarantees for Ukraine would increase the risk of conflict between Moscow and the West by turning Kyiv into a \u201cstrategic provocateur\u201d on Russia\u2019s borders.<\/li>\n<li>Estonia\u2019s Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur said the best security guarantee for Ukraine would be membership in NATO.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-arc-image-770 wp-image-3915154\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/13297727-1756511701.jpg\" alt=\"epa12333748 Ukrainians bring flowers and toys at the site of a Russian strike the previous day hit a five-storey residential building in Kyiv, Ukraine, 29 August 2025, amid the ongoing Russian invasion.
