{"id":384628,"date":"2025-08-30T08:05:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-30T08:05:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/384628\/"},"modified":"2025-08-30T08:05:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-30T08:05:10","slug":"darlington-pre-school-send-children-supported-by-book-bags","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/384628\/","title":{"rendered":"Darlington pre-school SEND children supported by book bags"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Special book bags have been designed for neurodivergent children to support their emotional and sensory needs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Darlington Libraries has created the bags which contain books suitable for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and can be borrowed for free.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Inside are five books recommended for pre-school age children and they explore feelings and emotions or offer tactile sensory experiences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">They also contain information about support available to families.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Councillor Nick Wallis, Darlington Borough Council&#8217;s cabinet member for children and young people, said the project would provide children with a &#8220;practical and enjoyable tool&#8221; to encourage communication and connection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;Sharing books from an early age can help promote speech and language development, improve speaking and listening skills, strengthen bonding and attachment, and create a rich sensory play experience,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The Labour-led council said the books had been chosen by library staff and could be used for story time or sensory play.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Wallis added: &#8220;Our libraries are there for everyone to enjoy and we&#8217;re delighted to be able to provide these new resources to help make them even more accessible and inclusive.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Special book bags have been designed for neurodivergent children to support their emotional and sensory needs.
