{"id":385094,"date":"2025-08-30T12:16:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-30T12:16:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/385094\/"},"modified":"2025-08-30T12:16:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-30T12:16:10","slug":"county-is-named-second-best-in-britain-heres-why","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/385094\/","title":{"rendered":"County is named second best in Britain: here&#8217;s why"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Herefordshire has been named the second-best area for walking routes in the UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The study by Park Holidays UK looked at trail density, difficulty, and the number of family- and pet-friendly trails.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Herefordshire scored high with 1,261 trails within a 50-mile radius and a trail density of 153 per square metre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It stood out for its family-friendly routes, boasting 275 trails suitable for all ages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The county&#8217;s landscape of rolling hills, ancient orchards, and black-and-white timbered buildings offers a peaceful walking experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Adventurers can tackle parts of the 154-mile Herefordshire Trail or explore pilgrim routes around Hereford.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Historic sites and castles provide added points of interest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The area also caters to those seeking more challenging walks, with 72 strenuous and technical routes available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Derbyshire took the top spot in the study, with 1,835 trails within a 50-mile radius and a trail density of 178.3 per square metre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Yorkshire came in third with 888 trails and a trail density of 14.6 per square metre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Lancashire and Hampshire completed the top five.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Park Holidays UK also highlighted the counties with the most strenuous and technical walks, with Lancashire leading with 101 demanding routes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Cumbria followed closely with 97 strenuous walks amid the spectacular fells and peaks of the Lake District.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Derbyshire and Herefordshire also cater well to adventure seekers, with 86 and 72 tough trails respectively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The study aims to help walkers of all kinds find the best walking experiences in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Herefordshire has been named the second-best area for walking routes in the UK.
