{"id":385486,"date":"2025-08-30T17:33:20","date_gmt":"2025-08-30T17:33:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/385486\/"},"modified":"2025-08-30T17:33:20","modified_gmt":"2025-08-30T17:33:20","slug":"green-day-make-fun-of-will-smiths-alleged-ai-generated-fan-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/385486\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Day make fun of Will Smith&#8217;s alleged AI-generated fan video"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/green-day\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Green Day<\/a> have poked fun at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/will-smith\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Will Smith<\/a> for allegedly using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/tag\/ai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI<\/a>\u00a0to generate images of fans in a new video of his tour.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"post-content-read-more\">\n<li><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/green-day-saviors-album-review-3567737\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Green Day \u2013 \u2018Saviors\u2019 review: their best work since \u2018American Idiot\u2019<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The rapper and actor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/will-smith-announces-first-ever-headline-tour-in-uk-and-europe-for-this-summer-buy-tickets-3847224\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recently wrapped up his tour<\/a>\u00a0in support of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/will-smith-reveals-release-date-and-tracklist-for-based-on-a-true-story-his-first-album-in-20-years-3846914\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Based On A True Story\u2019<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 his first studio album in 20 years, which came out in March.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, a video Smith shared on YouTube, showing highlights of the tour, made headlines <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/will-smith-accused-of-creating-ai-fans-in-new-tour-video-3887232\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as it appears some clips included had been made with AI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Shots of audience members, many of whom are crying, were called into question as they appeared to have blurred or distorted faces, while others appear to have oddly shaped hands or excess fingers.<\/p>\n<p>Another shot shows a man gripping a sign that read: \u201c\u2018You Can Make It\u2019 helped me survive cancer. THX Will,\u201d but his knuckles seem to be blurred into the sign.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Now, Green Day have weighed in on the drama. On Instagram, the band shared a video from one of the recent shows on their South American tour, showing fans at the barrier near the stage singing along to \u2018Basket Case\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The video was shared alongside the caption: \u201cDon\u2019t need AI for our crowds \ud83d\ude1c.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the debate surrounding the video, neither Smith nor his team has responded. NME also reached out to Smith\u2019s representative for comment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/waxy.org\/2025\/08\/will-smiths-concert-crowds-were-real-but-ai-is-blurring-the-lines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tech blogger Andy Baio<\/a> found that many of the shots in question in Smith\u2019s video seem to be images already in still photos posted on Smith\u2019s Instagram before the video was released.<\/p>\n<p>Baio suggests that Smith\u2019s team took some of those aforementioned still photos and put them through an \u201cimage-to-video model to create a short animated clip suitable for a concert montage.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" width:calc(100% - 2px);\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It comes during a period of controversy for AI technology in the music industry, with a recent study sharing the stark warning that<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/music-sector-workers-to-lose-near-a-quarter-of-all-work-over-next-four-years-says-study-3818880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0people working in music are likely to lose a quarter of their income to Artificial Intelligence over the next four years.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/100000-ai-generated-tracks-are-uploaded-to-deezer-every-day-3834766#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deezer also reported that around 10,000 AI-generated tracks are submitted to the platform daily<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 making up around 10 per cent of all its music uploads, and it has also emerged that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/ai-generated-songs-are-being-added-to-dead-musicians-pages-on-spotify-without-permission-3879795\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI-generated songs are reportedly being uploaded to dead musicians\u2019 profiles<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/brands\/spotify\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spotify<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/elton-john\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elton John<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/coldplay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coldplay<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/dua-lipa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dua Lipa<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/paul-mccartney\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul McCartney<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/florence-and-the-machine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Florence Welch<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/kate-bush\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kate Bush<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/robbie-williams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robbie Williams<\/a>\u00a0are among those who this year\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/elton-john-coldplay-and-dua-lipa-among-400-artists-calling-on-uk-government-to-change-copyright-laws-amid-ai-threat-3861915\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called on the UK government to change copyright laws amid the threat from AI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/sza\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SZA<\/a>\u00a0has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/sza-slams-ai-users-codependent-on-a-machine-please-google-how-much-energy-and-pollution-it-takes-to-run-ai-3878792\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hit out at AI users for being \u201ccodependent on a machine\u201d<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/james-cameron\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Cameron<\/a>\u00a0has revealed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/film\/james-cameron-is-worried-the-terminator-could-happen-in-real-life-3883742\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he is worried that the technology could lead to a real-life version of his film\u00a0The Terminator<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In other Will Smith news,\u00a0<a
