{"id":385695,"date":"2025-08-30T20:05:40","date_gmt":"2025-08-30T20:05:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/385695\/"},"modified":"2025-08-30T20:05:40","modified_gmt":"2025-08-30T20:05:40","slug":"edinburgh-napier-university-announces-up-to-70-jobs-to-be-lost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/385695\/","title":{"rendered":"Edinburgh Napier University announces up to 70 jobs to be lost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Principal and vice chancellor professor Sue Rigby announced the plans in a letter to staff earlier this week.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Rigby said the institute is currently in a \u201cfinancially resilient position\u201d, but did warn that the cost base \u201ccontinues to outstrip income\u201d, adding that changes were necessary to create a financial surplus.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The university added that it was also facing changing demands for courses.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It is currently unclear which posts are at risk, or whether teaching roles will be affected.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/25428250.teachers-back-strike-action-ballot-class-contact-time\/?rel=cl_lsa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teachers back strike action in ballot over class contact time<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The university has launched a consultation with trade unions including the EIS and Unison which is expected to run until mid-October with a voluntary redundancy scheme under consideration.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In her letter to staff, Rigby explained the university\u2019s aim is to \u201ccontinue to deliver what we do best &#8211; impactful education and employability, a valued student experience, and innovative research.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She added that the university has an obligation to run in a sustainable way but \u201cour cost base continues to outstrip our income\u201d.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Unison&#8217;s Napier University branch secretary Sharon Hall said: \u201cStaff are understandably angry that once again they are paying the price for the university&#8217;s financial problems. We could be see 70 jobs cut across three campuses.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cUnison stewards will meet managers in the next few days.
