A Hibs fan<\/a> has been flown home from Denmark in an air ambulance after he collapsed while supporting his team.<\/p>\n

Dougie Sneddon, 69, from Gilmerton in Edinburgh<\/a>, was in Copenhagen to see his beloved Hibees play against Midtjylland when tragedy stuck on July 24.<\/p>\n

After taking unwell, Dougie was admitted to hospital<\/a> and put in intensive care on a ventilator.<\/p>\n

He was transferred to a specialist hospital that treats kidney failure while in Denmark – and his close friend, Peter Manson, has since confirmed Dougie arrived back in Edinburgh via air ambulance on August 11 after spending weeks in ICU.<\/p>\n

A fundraiser was launched<\/a> to raise funds for his family to cover any costs and in total they have raised over \u00a316,000.<\/p>\n

It’s estimated the amount needed for the air ambulance<\/a> and hospital bills will sit around \u00a340,000 for the family.<\/p>\n

Peter told Edinburgh Live<\/a>: “Dougie got home in an air ambulance. The total for the hospital bills and air ambulance will be well over \u00a340,000 plus.<\/p>\n

“The family are still in a bit of shell shock. My GoFundMe raised over \u00a316,000. The Gilmerton Miners Welfare & Social club had a fundraiser for Dougie too on August 24, they had raffles etc and Colin Kellie had his head shaved.<\/p>\n

“Also, Andy – a good friend of Dougie – was selling Dougie t-shirts. The total made was \u00a33,360 making the overall amount raised just under \u00a320,000.<\/p>\n

“The family would really like to thank everyone, including the lodges, public, friends, the Hibs Family and embers of the Miners Club.<\/p>\n

“From the bottom of my heart I would like to thank everyone who contributed.”<\/p>\n

Peter and Dougie have been friends for years and are both dedicated Hibs fans and he set up the GoFundMe<\/a> to help get his pal home.<\/p>\n

Peter added: “Dougie is from Gilmerton. We have been pals for a long time and have been to many Hibs matches together. He’s a really popular man but this has been really hard.”<\/p>\n
