Pic: Blog Preston.<\/p>\n<p>Ribble Valley MP Maya Ellis says the government will come down hard on anyone found fly tipping waste after a spate of incidents across the borough this summer.<\/p>\n<p>\t&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Several incidents have taken place near Marles Wood, close to the village of Ribchester, while other rural areas in the Ribble Valley have also been blighted.<\/p>\n<p>But it is not just the countryside being targeted by fly tippers. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogpreston.co.uk\/2025\/07\/pride-in-bamber-bridge-kicked-off-by-efforts-of-local-litter-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blog Preston recently reported<\/a> how Bamber Bridge councillor David Bollenberg, alongside volunteers, was trying to tackle the growing scourge of fly tipping in the area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogpreston.co.uk\/2025\/08\/more-than-100-apartments-set-for-fylde-road-mill-site-gutted-by-1960s-fire\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.blogpreston.co.uk\/2025\/08\/more-than-100-apartments-set-for-fylde-road-mill-site-gutted-by-1960s-fire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More than 100 apartments set for Fylde Road mill site gutted by 1960s fire<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Maya Ellis said: \u201cI know fly tipping continues to be a huge problem across the whole of constituency and it\u2019s an issue I take incredibly seriously.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSignificant amounts of waste have been found at Marles Wood car park [and] we reported this issue and have got Ribble Valley Council Cleansing Team to clear this area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis government is taking a hard line on the issues of fly tipping and plans to increase prison sentences for those who transport or deal with waste illegally, as well as the seizing and crushing of these vehicles. Alternatively, you can email Ribble Valley Borough Council at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogpreston.co.uk\/cdn-cgi\/l\/email-protection\" class=\"__cf_email__\" data-cfemail=\"a8cbc7c6dcc9cbdce8dac1cacac4cddec9c4c4cdd186cfc7de86ddc3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[email\u00a0protected]<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Defra figures show that cases of fly tipping rose by 6 per cent, from 1.08 million in 2022\/23 to 1.15 million in 2023\/24.
