{"id":387754,"date":"2025-08-31T20:18:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-31T20:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/387754\/"},"modified":"2025-08-31T20:18:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-31T20:18:10","slug":"police-officer-punched-in-face-as-four-arrested-at-london-anti-asylum-protest-uk-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/387754\/","title":{"rendered":"Police officer \u2018punched in face\u2019 as four arrested at London anti-asylum protest | UK news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">A police officer was allegedly punched in the face and four people were arrested at an anti-immigration protest march in London on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Metropolitan police said they had been facilitating a peaceful demonstration along Manchester Road and Westferry Road on the Isle of Dogs before \u201ca small number of masked protesters then became aggressive towards members of the public and police\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The group had reportedly moved into Canary Wharf shopping centre at about 4.30pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">A section 60 AA order was issued to \u201cprevent people concealing their identity with masks\u201d, as well as a section 35 dispersal order which directed protesters to leave.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Met said: \u201cArrests were made for common assault by a protester on a member of the public, possession of class A and B drugs, assault on police\/public order offences and failure to disperse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cOne of our officers was punched in the face \u2013 luckily they did not suffer significant injury.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The protest, involving between 50 and 100 people, began outside the Britannia International hotel in Canary Wharf on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Some anti-immigration demonstrators were seen carrying union flags and placards.<\/p>\n<p>Pro-migrant and anti-fascist protesters outside the Britannia hotel in Canary Wharf, east London. Photograph: Anadolu\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">About 100 counter-protesters held banners bearing slogans including \u201cstand up to racism\u201d and \u201cstop the far right\u201d.
