One person has died and several others have been injured after two planes collided mid-air in Colorado.<\/p>\n

Both aircraft caught fire after the accident, and smoke could be seen billowing into the sky near to Fort Morgan Municipal Airport where the incident took place.<\/p>\n

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the crash happened at around 10.40am and involved a Cessna 172 and an Extra Flugzeugbau EA300. <\/p>\n

Morgan County Sheriff’s Office announced that one person was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other person from that plane was hospitalised.<\/p>\n

Harrowing aerial footage from CBS News showed the aftermath of the crash<\/p>\n

It added: “The two occupants of the Cessna sustained minor injuries and were released at the scene.”<\/p>\n

It is believed that at the time of the incident, both planes were attempting to land.<\/p>\n

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have confirmed they are investigating the collision.<\/p>\n

Authorities remain at the scene to secure the site.<\/p>\n

The Sheriff’s Office added: “We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim in this tragic event.<\/p>\n

“We would like to express our gratitude to all the agencies that helped with this situation. <\/p>\n

“Additionally, we want to thank the citizens who assisted in trying to extinguish the fire until the fire department and first responders arrived on the scene.”<\/p>\n

Fort Morgan Municipal Airport has closed following the crash.<\/p>\n

The airport’s FAA tower webcam captured footage of the aftermath of the incident, with smoke pouring into the sky.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, tributes flooded in for a pilot who died when his plane crashed into a runway and burst into flames<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Major Maciej “SLAB” Krakowian was piloting an F-16 jet in the Polish city of Radom when the accident happened on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The plane had been practicing a loop-the-loop for the Radom Air Show, which has since been cancelled due to the incident.<\/p>\n

Dramatic footage of the crash showed a fireball erupting as the plane hit the ground, before the burning wreckage skidded nearly 60 metres along the runway.<\/p>\n
