Despite recording<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/met-office-storm-names-unveiled-35824926\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" six stormsLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> six storms<\/a> since September last year, the country has enjoyed five heatwaves and a number of pleasant, sunny days which we have all lapped up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">On the last day of August, and on the last day of meteorological summer, Kinloss, a quaint village in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/moray-council\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"MorayLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Moray<\/a>, recorded 11.5 hours of sunlight in just 24 hours. After all, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/scotland-now\/scotlands-hawaii-gets-more-sunlight-35361115\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"we are good at prolonging the light this side of the borderLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">we are good at prolonging the light this side of the border<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">However, as we now usher in September, and<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/autumn-officially-starts-two-fascinating-35797949\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" the prospect of autumnLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> the prospect of autumn<\/a>, attention is now turning to the question of whether Scotland will get a bit more heat and sunshine in the form of an Indian summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Met Office Meteorological Glossary defines Indian summer as &#8220;a warm, calm spell of weather occurring in autumn, especially in October and November&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">For September, long-range weather maps from WXcharts show a warm Iberian plume moving over southern England and Wales in the early part of next month, bringing highs of 30C on September 8.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/0_woman-relaxes-in-sunshine.jpg\" alt=\"A woman relaxes in the sunshine\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The mercury is set to hit 30C but only in certain parts of the country(Image: Getty)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The southeast is set to see the hottest weather, while the southwest, central England and Wales are also expected to experience higher-than-usual temperatures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">However, northern England and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Scotland Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Scotland <\/a>will see cooler conditions of around 14C, with things taking on a decidedly more autumnal feel towards the northern tip of Scotland, where daytime temperatures may only reach 8C.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">According to the Met Office&#8217;s long-range weather outlook for Friday, September 5 until Sunday, September 14, showers or longer spells of rain are set to thrash much of the UK at times.
