{"id":389277,"date":"2025-09-01T13:14:18","date_gmt":"2025-09-01T13:14:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/389277\/"},"modified":"2025-09-01T13:14:18","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T13:14:18","slug":"ukrainian-refugee-girl-killed-in-germany-after-being-pushed-under-train","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/389277\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukrainian refugee girl killed in Germany after being pushed under train"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 16-year-old Ukrainian refugee was killed in the German city of Friedland after being pushed in front of a freight train on Aug. 11, German media outlet Stern reported on Aug. 31.<\/p>\n<p>The victim, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bild.de\/regional\/niedersachsen\/friedland-lianas-opa-musste-alles-mitanhoeren-68b31df13ac9186c23fa85e1?fbclid=IwY2xjawMiQFZleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETEyZ0pJcFhDWFd1dkNiNDY2AR7L6vWBapdsR1PW_FBapQs81ZW5VcsjUxt6ZnUa2B2OqdYtW6rFqjrn9YvJ4g_aem_QQwkOxq6fEOmV9qgVdI2oQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">identified<\/a> as Liana, was struck by a train traveling about 100 kilometers per hour (62 mph) after a 31-year-old Iraqi citizen allegedly shoved her onto the tracks.<\/p>\n<p>The police initially did not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndr.de\/nachrichten\/niedersachsen\/braunschweig_harz_goettingen\/nach-tod-von-16-jaehriger-in-friedland-verdaechtiger-festgenommen,friedland-110.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">detain<\/a> the man when he pointed them to her body, but later DNA tests revealed his fingerprints on her shoulder, leading investigators to conclude she had been violently grabbed.<\/p>\n<p>German authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stern.de\/news\/gewaltsamer-tod-von-16-jaehriger-in-friedland-sorgt-weiter-fuer-entsetzen-36015698.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> the suspect had a blood alcohol level of 1.35\u2030 and a history of paranoid schizophrenia. He was placed in a psychiatric facility and is under investigation for unintentional homicide. <\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors said there is no evidence the suspect and victim knew each other. <\/p>\n<p>Investigators also found that the Iraqi citizen had lived in <a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/tag\/germany\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Germany<\/a> for years despite his asylum application being rejected and a deportation order being issued.<\/p>\n<p>Liana fled <a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/tag\/mariupol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mariupol<\/a> with her parents and two younger brothers in 2022. In Germany, she had been training to become a dental assistant. Following her death, the local community organized a fundraiser to cover funeral expenses.<\/p>\n<p>Germany <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/1312584\/ukrainian-refugees-by-country\/#:~:text=Over%201.2%20million%20refugees%20from,countries%20as%20of%20June%202022.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hosts<\/a> 1.2 million Ukrainian <a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/tag\/refugees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">refugees<\/a> as of June 2025, the highest number of any EU country.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"kg-bookmark-container\" href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/ukrainian-authorities-arrest-suspect-in-shooting-of-politician-andriy-parubiy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<p>Ukraine detains suspect in shooting of ex-parliament speaker, reports \u2018Russian trace\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspect has given an initial testimony.
