{"id":389741,"date":"2025-09-01T17:16:12","date_gmt":"2025-09-01T17:16:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/389741\/"},"modified":"2025-09-01T17:16:12","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T17:16:12","slug":"new-bus-services-across-south-gloucestershire-welcomed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/389741\/","title":{"rendered":"New bus services across South Gloucestershire welcomed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The new Y8 bus route \u2013 which replaces the previously axed 84\/85 route \u2013 has been welcomed as giving \u2018new life\u2019 to villages across South Gloucestershire, although funding is only in place until April.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Starting today, September 1, the Y8 service &#8211; also known as the Yate Link &#8211; will extend its circular\u00a0route into Wotton.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Y8 starts and finishes\u00a0in Yate, with every trip passing through Wotton \u2013 there will be 15 trips between Yate and Wotton on weekdays and 12 trips on Saturdays.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  This is the latest set of bus changes in the area while the Y2C trial service will connect Yate and Cribbs Causeway via Thornbury and different villages in the area.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Thornbury &amp; Yate MP Claire Young has welcomed the extension of the Y8 as being a \u2018big win\u2019 that will see \u2018new life\u2019 given to villages across South Gloucestershire while Wotton councillor Linda Cohen has praised campaigners for their tireless efforts in getting the vital\u00a0service re-instated.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The new route also offers a service that will enable residents to reach Yate railway station in time for the 08:37 rush hour train service in the morning and connect several other villages via a regular circular service.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ms Young said: \u201cThe confirmation of the new extended\u00a0Y8\u00a0bus route is a big win for local residents.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cNot only does it restore a regular service to Wotton-under-Edge, but it also better connects our villages and offers key peak-time services into Yate.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThis, combined with other upcoming bus changes that we hope to see in coming weeks, will bring new life to our rural bus services and ensure that our public transport links truly offer people a viable way to get around.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI am proud that we have seen a real joint up effort to push for these important changes and ensure they deliver for our communities.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThis really is a testament to the work of both MPs and local councillors working together hand-in-hand to deliver real change.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI will continue to campaign to improve local services, to restore lost routes and provide a guaranteed level of service right across our area \u2013 including getting a direct bus between Thornbury and Yate \u2013 so residents get the fair deal they deserve.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ms Cohen said: &#8220;Wotton has got back its bus to Yate.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Lots of us have been involved, residents, councillors.\u00a0but there is only one woman that we need to thank.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Barbara Lawrence\u00a0spearheaded the campaign two years ago when there was the suggestion we might lose the bus service to Yate, she managed to save the 84\/85 and then they were lost again.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Most despaired, some were just resigned but Barbara was not to be defeated and was determined to champion the rights of the elderly, students and school pupils.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ms Lawrence added: &#8220;Our campaign group is relieved and grateful that decision makers across the region have worked collaboratively to restore connectivity of our towns and villages.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Residents in Hillesley, Wotton-Under-Edge and Kingswood can access affordable shopping, medical appointments and onward travel links.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u00a0&#8220;We urge people to use the regular timetabled bus route and support our argument for a permanent solution from April 2026.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The new Y8 bus route \u2013 which replaces the previously axed 84\/85 route \u2013 has been welcomed as&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":389742,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[8818],"tags":[381,748,393,4884,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-389741","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-bristol","8":"tag-bristol","9":"tag-britain","10":"tag-england","11":"tag-great-britain","12":"tag-uk","13":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/115130176927747581","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/389741","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=389741"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/389741\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/389742"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=389741"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=389741"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=389741"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
