My long anticipated solo trip to sunny Spain<\/a> is now over in the blink of an eye and as I ponder on the few days of tranquil bliss I can now report on the trip away as a whole.<\/p>\n

I ventured to Cambrils in Spain for four nights (not long enough!) and done something I never imagined I could ever do – travelled and stayed on my own.<\/p>\n

If you told me even this time last year that I would travel to a whole other country by myself I would never believe you.<\/p>\n

That’s one of the main reasons I decided to go. I wanted to challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone.<\/p>\n

But strangely enough it never felt like I actually did!<\/p>\n

As a very introverted person, someone who loves being in their own company, this trip was definitely a no brainer. But my anxiety and fear of the unknown was something I never thought I could push past, until I finally did.<\/p>\n

In the days coming up to the trip, as I would excitedly tell people about my upcoming plans away, I was met with some apprehension.\u00a0<\/p>\n

People wondering ‘why are you going alone?’ or people who said ‘I don’t think I could ever do that- I’d need someone to talk to!’.<\/p>\n

And that is very fair – a solo trip is definitely not for everyone. If you are very extroverted I wouldn’t recommend the trip I planned for myself. Instead I would go to hostels where you have more opportunity to meet other people.<\/p>\n

I instead went to a family resort right on the beach front in Cambrils that had a pool, a gym and a wellness centre. It had everything I needed there so I never really had to leave.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Everything was perfect; I spent time chilling at the beach, by the pool, I went to an indoor spa in the hotel and I made very good use out of the all inclusive buffet.<\/p>\n

However, by around 9pm each night, I was kicking myself a little bit.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That was when the family entertainment would start right outside the hotel and it was when I’d start to miss having someone with me. I did go down to the entertainment and have a few drinks some nights but it was mainly catered around children. Next time I would make sure to book an adults only hotel so the entertainment would be a bit more to my liking.<\/p>\n

I also never went out during the night. Maybe some people would brave it and maybe I might in the future but I was too nervous this time around. I definitely missed that aspect of a holiday as it’s always fun to go out and have fun in the nightclubs and bars when you’re away.<\/p>\n

One thing I did was book myself a three-hour boat trip which was about 20 minutes away from the hotel. This was so much fun and brought me out of my comfort zone that little bit further. While I was waiting I walked around the strip, bought some gifts for friends and family, and sat outside to enjoy my surroundings with a drink.<\/p>\n

Oddly enough I never once felt scared, anxious or terribly lonely.\u00a0<\/p>\n

My friends and family would ask ‘how are you finding it being all alone?’ and I would reply ‘I’m loving it!’.<\/p>\n

I don’t think I ever felt so much at peace before. I got to do whatever I wanted. If I wanted to sleep in I could without feeling too guilty, or if I wanted to just read my book for hours at the pool I could as well without having to entertain anyone else.\u00a0<\/p>\n

My only worries were making it to breakfast on time! I would 100% do it again.<\/p>\n

Next time around, whenever that may be, I would like to go solo for a lot longer than four nights. And I would go somewhere I’ve never been before. Thailand is definitely on my bucket list.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I would also push myself to talk to new people, as this is something I’m not always comfortable with, and would never normally go out of my way to do.<\/p>\n

Now that I know what to expect, I feel like I could go anywhere in the world now and know I would be ok.\u00a0<\/p>\n
