<\/p>\nAll night trams at weekends and extra services around the big name concerts at Scottish Gas Murrayfield and at the Royal Highland Centre at Ingliston mean that the numbers Edinburgh Trams have just announced create new records. <\/p>\n
Some 1.5 million passenger journeys were recorded in August on the line which runs from Edinburgh Airport to Newhaven. Additional staff were on duty to help passengers during the busy times with face to face advice.<\/p>\n
Sarah Singh, Edinburgh Trams Head of Service Delivery, said, \u201cThis has been a landmark month for Edinburgh Trams. The combination of the festival and a packed events calendar has seen record-breaking numbers on the tram network.<\/p>\n
\u201cSaturday 9th August set a new daily record of just under 77,000 recorded journeys which is a true indication of how well trams can perform on a day.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019d like to thank our entire team for their efforts in delivering extra services, managing huge crowds, and keeping the city moving during such an exciting but demanding period, as well as every customer who chose to travel with us this month.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cllr Stephen Jenkinson, Transport and Environment Convener, said: \u201cAugust has been a huge month for Edinburgh, with our ever-popular festivals alongside a series of major concerts at Murrayfield, and these numbers show just how important Edinburgh Trams have been to our success.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve worked closely with Edinburgh Trams and other partners to keep the city moving over the last month and its thanks to the forward planning and efforts of all those involved that it all ran so smoothly. It\u2019s fantastic that so many people chose to travel by tram during this period.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new figures overtake those announced in June 2024 when Taylor Swift performed in the city and Edinburgh Trams recorded just under 74,500 journeys in one day.<\/p>\n

The City of Edinburgh Council is now consulting on the north-south extension to the tram line. Anyone can contribute their views on the options for the northern part of the line here.<\/a><\/p>\n There are consultation events as follows:<\/p>\n\n
