{"id":39016,"date":"2025-04-21T18:44:10","date_gmt":"2025-04-21T18:44:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/39016\/"},"modified":"2025-04-21T18:44:10","modified_gmt":"2025-04-21T18:44:10","slug":"birmingham-off-licence-fuelling-crime-and-disorder-set-for-licence-review-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/39016\/","title":{"rendered":"Birmingham off-licence &#8216;fuelling&#8217; crime and disorder set for licence review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Drinks 2 Go in Erdington&#8217;s High Street is to have its premises licence reviewed following a series of alleged incidents linked to trouble in the area<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_Drinks-2-Go-1.jpg\" alt=\"Google Maps street view of Erdington High Street with the Drinks 2 Go off licence pictured on the right-hand side \" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Drinks 2 Go in Erdington High Street is accused of &#8216;fuelling&#8217; trouble in the area just as West Midlands Police is cracking down in crime and disorder with its Operation Fearless campaign (Image: Google)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">An off-licence in Birmingham is to have its premises licence reviewed after police accuse it of \u2018fuelling\u2019 crime and trouble in a busy street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Drinks 2 Go in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/erdington\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Erdington<\/a> \u2019s High Street has been accused of adding to problems in the area just as <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/west-midlands-police\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">West Midlands Police<\/a> is looking to crack down on them with its Operation Fearless.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The police operation, which began last November, has seen an increased police presence in the high street, working with partner agencies to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Read more: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/dozens-arrested-launch-erdington-high-31091131\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Nearly 75 arrested in two months during crackdown on high street<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But Drinks 2 Go is accused of adding to the issues due to \u2018poor operational procedures over a number of visits from responsible authorities\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">West Midlands Police\u2019s Detective Superintendent James Monro has referenced the issues in a statement dated April 9, submitted with the premises review application.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_Drinks-2-Go-2.jpg\" alt=\"The front of the Drinks 2 Go off-licence in High Street, Erdington \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The Drinks 2 Go off-licence in High Street, Erdington (Image: Google)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Det Supt Munro says Sergeant Rich Fryer was moving on a group from the High Street on Monday, March 3, which is subject to a public space protection order.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He said the group were \u2018intoxicated\u2019, had alcohol seized from them and were told to leave the High Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But he continued: \u201cOfficers then observed the group going into Drinks 2 Go, purchasing more alcohol, and then consume it on the street.
