{"id":390904,"date":"2025-09-02T03:40:20","date_gmt":"2025-09-02T03:40:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/390904\/"},"modified":"2025-09-02T03:40:20","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T03:40:20","slug":"major-changes-mean-these-people-wont-get-state-pension-when-they-turn-66","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/390904\/","title":{"rendered":"Major changes mean these people won&#8217;t get state pension when they turn 66"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Millions to be affected by state pension shake-up next year<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/0_state-pension-age.jpg\" alt=\"Full Fact have warned state pensioners believing the claims without understanding the &quot;context&quot;. \" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Major changes are coming for the state pension. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Millions of Brits will not get their state pension when they turn 66 under major changes happening in just a few months&#8217; time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The pension age in the UK is rising from 66 to 67, starting next year and to be fully implemented by 2028.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">It means after March 6, 1961 (currently aged 64) will not be able to claim their pension when they turn 66.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">READ MORE: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/motoring\/motoring-news\/new-law-stop-drivers-parking-32357822\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">New law to &#8216;stop drivers parking outside their homes&#8217;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=3d4ffd46-bda0-4cd0-b915-62c991cdadff&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"[object Object]Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Get our best money saving tips and hacks by signing up to our newsletter<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">They instead will have to wait until they are 67, and they may be required to work for longer as a result.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">It&#8217;s a major change for Britain as the pension age shifts upwards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Millions in their 50s and early 60s will have to work for longer before they can retire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The pension age is increased every couple of decades or so to reflect the ageing population and the cost to the nation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">However, the next age rise to 68 could be brought forwards amid a current pensions review.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">As it stands, those born up to April 5, 1977 will be eligible to claim the state pension when they reach 67 &#8211; but that could change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Chancellor Rachel Reeves said recently: &#8220;As life expectancy increases it is right to look at the state pension age to ensure that the state pension is sustainable and affordable for generations to come.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;That\u2019s why we have asked a very experienced set of experts to look at all the evidence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Head of public policy at AJ Bell, Rachel Vahey, said: &#8220;An increase to state pension age from 66 to 67 is already slated to happen between 2026 and 2028. But it&#8217;s less clear what will happen after that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;There is also an increase to age 68 pencilled in for 2046, but a faster increase is definitely on the cards.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Millions to be affected by state pension shake-up next yearMajor changes are coming for the state pension.
