The pub chain has ordered staff to stop accepting Scottish \u00a320 and \u00a350 notes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Some customers in England say they are being refused service when trying to pay with currency. Craig Neil, 72, of Troon, Ayrshire, said he was refused service in Newcastle&#8217;s Mile Castle pub.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He told The Scottish Sun: \u201cIt seems they are not accepting them in any Wetherspoons in England. No explanation was given. They poured a pint of Carling and I handed over a \u00a320 note. The pint was in front of me and I\u2019d had a couple of sips. Then they said they wouldn\u2019t accept my cash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cPeople round about will have been saying, \u2018That guy\u2019s barred from the pub.\u2019 It was very embarrassing. The manager took the pint off me. I just got up and left. I was angry. I\u2019d handed over legal tender.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A spokesperson for Wetherspoons apologised for the impact the policy was having on customers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">They said: \u201cWe were notified by the Bank of England last October that a large number of fake Scottish \u00a320 notes were being put into circulation by organised crime gangs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;Advice was given as to how to identify them \u2014 but with a warning not to accept if in doubt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThis warning, coupled with an increase in the receipt of fake notes by pubs, led to a decision in late November last year not to accept Scottish \u00a320 notes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThis does not apply in Scotland and certain towns and cities with close links to Scotland.
