A Rutherglen woman helped unveil a new bus for Erskine Veterans Charity after winning a competition to name it.<\/p>\n
\u2018Bonnie the Bus\u2019 is a brand-new minibus bought with funds raised by the charity\u2019s army of supporters who raised more than \u00a375,000 in just a few months.<\/p>\n
And it was Maggie McElhinney, from Rutherglen, who won a competition to name the vehicle.<\/p>\n
The 70-year-old said: \u201cI\u2019ve supported Erskine for years and I was delighted to suggest a name. To know it will now be seen on the road, taking veterans to the places they love, is really special.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bonnie will now join \u2018Shuggy the Shuttle\u2019, who has clocked up 26,500 miles since 2021, ferrying veterans to hospital appointments, seaside fish-and-chip runs, football matches, museums and even the world-famous Royal Edinburgh Tattoo.<\/p>\n
The charity\u2019s spring appeal saw 1284 donations pour in, with supporters also asked to suggest a name for the new arrival. A total of 140 entries were received before Bonnie, suggested by Maggie, was crowned the winner.<\/p>\n
