However, the Balearic Islands collectively experienced a rise in tourism of 0.8%, hosting 3,058,899 visitors throughout the islands. In spite of overall growth, the statistics show a steep fall in tourists from the German and UK markets, the island’s two largest sources of foreign visitors in this Islands in Spain.

German and UK Tourism Declines: Main Contributing Factors

In between these two markets, German tourism in Mallorca saw the most significant drop, falling by 8.6% in July 2025. This marks the third consecutive month of declining German arrivals to the island, a trend that has been attributed to economic challenges in Germany, including rising travel costs and inflation. On the other hand, UK tourism experienced a smaller decrease of 2.2% in July, following an increase earlier in the year.

These declines, particularly in the German market, have been highlighted as a concern for Mallorca’s tourism sector. The drop in German visitors has been more pronounced in Mallorca, as most German tourists to the Balearic Islands primarily visit this island, rather than other destinations in the region.

Regional Differences: Menorca and Ibiza See Growth

While Mallorca faced a decline in visitor numbers, other islands in the Balearics saw increased tourism. Menorca experienced a 15% rise in visitor numbers, and Ibiza/Formentera saw an increase of 10.7%. These positive trends helped drive an overall increase of 3.4% in tourism across the Balearic Islands, offsetting some of the challenges faced by Mallorca.

Mallorca’s International Appeal: Growth in French and Italian Visitors

Despite the decline in German and UK visitors, Mallorca still attracted a substantial number of international tourists in July. The island welcomed 1,989,382 visitors, with Spanish, French, and Italian markets showing growth. The Italian market, in particular, saw a remarkable 23% increase, although their numbers (52,170) remained far below those of Germany (575,455) and the UK (334,913).

This increase in visitors from Italy and France highlights Mallorca’s continued appeal to international tourists, despite some challenges in its main markets.

The Impact of Economic and Price Factors on Tourism

The slump in German tourism has been attributed to the German economy, as well as rising prices that have led to decreased demand for international travel. After months of growth averaging around 10%, the sudden reversal in German visitor numbers from May onward has sparked concerns within the tourism industry. Visitors are now reconsidering their travel plans, with price sensitivity playing a large role in their decision-making.

Tourism Recovery in the Balearics: Looking Ahead

Despite the decline in visitors from the German and UK markets, the Balearic Islands have experienced overall growth, with tourism in Menorca and Ibiza thriving. As the region continues to diversify its offerings and appeal to a wider range of international markets, including Italy, France, and Spain, tourism to the Balearics will likely continue to recover.

In the coming months, the Balearic Islands tourism sector will aim to enhance the diversity of visitor profiles, targeting new markets and promoting sustainable tourism practices to ensure continued growth. Balancing the recovery of key markets while expanding into emerging regions will be key to long-term success for Mallorca and its neighboring islands.

Mallorca’s Tourism Resilience Amidst Challenges

Mallorca has experienced some difficulties with reduced German and UK tourism in July 2025, the overall rise in tourists to the Balearic Islands reflects the area’s capacity to diversify and compensate for market changes. By persisting in targeting new markets and maximizing the tourism experience, Mallorca and its Balearic Island peers continue to be well-placed to continue as premium European tourist destinations.

Home » TOURISM NEWS » Spain’s Mallorca Tourism Sees Slight Decline as Arrivals from Germany and UK Fall…

[5310
135771,2000,299,1824,135772,44607,46398,135773,135774,42549,42541,135775
0":"post-391998","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-germany","8":"tag-balearic-islands-tourism","9":"tag-eu","10":"tag-europe","11":"tag-germany","12":"tag-germany-tourists-mallorca","13":"tag-latest-travel-news-of-europe","14":"tag-latest-travel-news-of-spain","15":"tag-mallorca-tourism-decline","16":"tag-mallorca-travel-trends-2025","17":"tag-spain-travel-news","18":"tag-tourism-news","19":"tag-uk-visitors-mallorca
["GET
