widely known and can affect different parts of the body,” Dr Woodman said.

This includes “chest pain, pressure, breathlessness or a persistent cough,” as well as abdominal pain, bloating, or feelings of fullness without eating.

Here, we asked Dr Woodman which symptoms he’d never ignore, whether cancer-related or not.

1) Swellings anywhere in your body without pain

“If you spot any swelling or swellings – with no pain – in one area of your body, always book a GP appointment,” he told us.

This can happen anywhere on your body, but lymphoma is especially likely top cause swelling in your lymph nodes at first.

Lymph nodes cluster “Around the sides of your neck, under your chin, behind your ears, and above your collarbones… at the front and back edges of your armpits… and where your upper thigh meets your lower abdomen,” he added.

2) Heavy sweating

It can be normal to perspire a little while sleeping, but Dr Woodman says it’s a red flag sign if you “Experience heavy sweating that soaks your clothes or bedding through – day or night”.

Multiple cancers,<a non-Hodgkin lymphoma, can lead to this symptom.

3) Losing weight without meaning to

Again, this <a cancers, including bowel cancer, as well as other health conditions.

<a href="https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/symptoms-never-to-ignore_uk_68af116de4b0c24bc53cf9cb" explained: “Unexplained weight loss is typically defined as losing more than 5% of your body weight over a span of 6-12 months, without any changes in diet or physical activity levels.”

4) Feeling tired no matter how well you sleep

This <a href="https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/symptoms-never-to-ignore_uk_68af116de4b0c24bc53cf9cb" and/or affect your day-to-day life.

5) Occasional high temperatures for no clear reason

“Experiencing occasional high temperatures for no real reason” is worth speaking to a professional about, the doctor advised.

This <a href="https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/why-do-i-feel-hot-but-no-fever#medical-causes" target="_blank" hyperthyroidism and diabetes.

6) Feeling itchy all over

The odd scratch might not be anything to worry about, but Dr Woodman says he’d always want someone who feels itchy “all over” to seek professional advice.

The issue could be caused by everything from liver issues to thyroid and kidney problems, and it <a href="https://www.nhs.uk/symptoms/itchy-skin/" target="_blank" role="link" class=" js-entry-link cet-external-link" data-vars-item-name="is always of concern" professional if you notice any new symptoms or changes.

“Getting things checked early can make a big difference – especially when it
comes to cancer concerns.”
