\n\tOscar winner Kathryn Bigelow<\/a> lit the fuse on A House of Dynamite<\/a> on Tuesday evening at the Venice<\/a> Film Festival, where the nuclear thriller premiered in competition and received an almost 13-minute ovation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThis is Bigelow\u2019s first feature since 2017\u2019s Detroit and rounds up a starry cast that includes Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Gabe Basso, Jared Harris, Tracy Letts, Anthony Ramos, Moses Ingram, Jonah Hauer-King, Greta Lee and Jason Clarke.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe logline for the film reads: When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond. Noah Oppenheim penned the script.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn his review<\/a>, Deadline\u2019s Pete Hammond called A House of Dynamite\u00a0\u201ca wake-up call, a cold shower, a reckoning, and one hell of a motion picture achievement,\u201d adding that Bigelow \u201chasn\u2019t lost her mojo if this nail-biting thriller is any indication.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added, \u201cLet\u2019s just hope the\u00a0world\u00a0takes notice because this explosive story is scary in many ways, but mostly because it is so completely plausible in the powder keg of a planet on which we currently exist \u2014 so plausible that the question it raises isn\u2019t\u00a0if\u00a0it could happen, but rather\u00a0when.\u00a0That is how close mankind might be to blowing itself up if warnings like this exceptionally powerful and brilliantly directed movie\u2019s message isn\u2019t heeded.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier today, Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty filmmaker Bigelow told the Venice press corps she took the project on as a way to promote immediate discussion about nuclear disarmament across the globe<\/a>. \u201cHopefully the film is an invitation to decide what to do about all these weapons,\u201d Bigelow said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHope against hope,\u201d she added, \u201cmaybe we reduce the global stockpile someday, but in the meantime we are really living in a house of dynamite.\u201d<\/p>\n
