Patrick Bamford was ushered out of Leeds<\/a> due to the “monster” wage he was earning at Elland Road.<\/p>\n

That’s according to agent Jon Newsome, who can understand why the Yorkshire club were keen to get him off the books by agreeing a contract termination.<\/p>\n

Bamford is now a free agent and Celtic<\/a> have made an approach over a potential deal to take him to Parkhead as the Premiership champions scramble to sign more firepower <\/a>following a disastrous Deadline Day to round off a majorly underwhelming window.<\/p>\n

However, if Newsome has his numbers right, then Bamford will have to settle for a major drop in salary if he is to become part of Brendan Rodgers’ squad.<\/p>\n

The BBC Radio Leeds pundit told the Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet podcast<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019m sure Patrick is devastated, but I bet there is an element of relief\u201d, said Newsome, who is now a FIFA-registered agent.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s had injuries, a bit of stick, and now he\u2019s got a fresh start.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do believe he was on monster money. I understand why the club let them go.\u201d<\/p>\n

His claim that Bamford will be devastated at his Elland Road exit could have some truth in it going by the player’s own words after leaving the club.<\/p>\n

Having spent the last seven years with Leeds, Bamford cryptically made reference to his exit was handled, admitting that it was too “raw” to get into the details of it just yet.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cAs many of you will have seen, my time at Leeds United has come to an end. I arrived here in 2018 a young lad and looking for a new challenge, and I found a new home here in Yorkshire.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe club became a massive part of my world, and I tried to make you proud by doing the most I could on the pitch and also in the community.<\/p>\n

“As in any walk of life, there have been challenges, and we’ve had our ups and downs as the song goes, but I’ve always felt strongly connected with both fans and the community. But as I leave here, I’m a married man to my beautiful wife, Michaela, and we have two beautiful girls who were born here in Yorkshire.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, with the way it has come to an end and the way things have been handled recently, it’s all a little bit too raw to reflect on immediately, but I think in the years to come and further down the line, I’ll look back at this period of my life with nothing but joy, pride and be super happy with what I’ve achieved and the fact that I was able to wear this number nine shirt in front of you guys for this many years.”<\/p>\n
