Fans have become familiar with Martinez\u2019s work. He documents Alcaraz\u2019s visits to the barber shop on his Victor Barber Instagram<\/a> account, and he\u2019s even flown out to tournaments like Roland Garros to cut the five-time Major winner\u2019s hair.<\/p>\n

But it wasn\u2019t Martinez who was responsible for Alcaraz\u2019s latest look. Instead, it was Alcaraz\u2019s brother, Alvaro.<\/p>\n

\u201cSuddenly, just my brother just – he misunderstood with the machine. He just cut it. Then, you know, the only way to fix it is just shave it off,\u201d the No. 2 seed said after his first-round match.<\/p>\n

Martinez has now spoken out on the hairdo that\u2019s sparked a frenzy in Flushing Meadows, and he told CNN Sports<\/a> that it was a little \u201cstrange\u201d.<\/p>\n

The barber explained: \u201cI asked Carlos about what had happened, and he told me the culprit was his brother Alvaro. I have to speak to Alvaro about what he has done!\u201d<\/p>\n

One of the first players to see Alcaraz\u2019s new look was Frances Tiafoe, who later told reporters that it was \u201cterrible\u201d<\/a>, though he joked that it would make the Spaniard even faster on the court.<\/p>\n

Martinez added: \u201cI\u2019ve seen the video and I laughed because I said the same thing, \u2018Now, he\u2019s going to be faster!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Alcaraz\u2019s hair has already grown considerably since his brother shaved it off a little over a week ago. But his barber doesn\u2019t think he\u2019ll go back to the buzzcut in future. \u201cHe\u2019s not going to do this again!\u201d he quipped.<\/p>\n

When Martinez is the one cutting his hair, the five-time Major winner usually opts for a fade, leaving it longer on the top. But Alcaraz\u2019s hair grows longer than most, and last week, he jokingly admitted it \u201cangered\u201d him.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, yeah, absolutely. Every time that I get haircut, in two or three days it’s gone. Yeah, I feeling angry sometimes, because I just feel like I cannot enjoy my haircut that much time,\u201d he smiled.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it is not a bad thing truly. It’s just, yeah, in three days you’re going to see another hair.\u201d<\/p>\n
