{"id":393564,"date":"2025-09-03T03:40:15","date_gmt":"2025-09-03T03:40:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/393564\/"},"modified":"2025-09-03T03:40:15","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T03:40:15","slug":"former-salford-red-devils-captain-ryan-brierley-to-join-fan-protest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/393564\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Salford Red Devils captain Ryan Brierley to join fan protest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/OHO9710-scaled.jpg\" class=\"attachment- size- wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p><strong>Salford Red Devils fans will protest the club\u2019s ownership ahead of Thursday night\u2019s Super League game against Catalans Dragons and it\u2019s now been confirmed that former club captain Ryan Brierley will be in attendance as well.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Brierley is one of nearly 20 senior players to have left Salford this season, either on a permanent or loan basis, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seriousaboutrl.com\/championship-club-ready-to-kick-on-super-league-door-after-signing-salford-red-devils-pair-107139\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">full-back exiting in early August to join Championship side Oldham<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An emotional statement was released by Brierley, who is himself a boyhood Salford fan, with the 33-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seriousaboutrl.com\/rugby-league-news-ryan-brierley-opens-on-his-salford-red-devils-breaking-point-after-sealing-departure-107150\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">speaking further on Sky Sports to confirm he had hit \u2018breaking point\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Within his statement was a line which showed the measure of the man and his love for the Red Devils, as Brierley said of his exit: \u201cI find peace in the fact that the club will benefit, even if it is just for the short term.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brierley\u2019s exit surely will have relieved the club somewhat financially but those financial issues remain, hence the fans continued protestations, which Brierley has now been confirmed to be taking part in.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a class=\"row-title\" href=\"https:\/\/www.seriousaboutrl.com\/salford-red-devils-coach-leaves-club-with-immediate-effect-amid-2026-uncertainty-108000\/\" aria-label=\"\u201cSalford Red Devils coach leaves club with immediate effect amid 2026 uncertainty\u201d (Edit)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Salford Red Devils coach leaves club with immediate effect amid 2026 uncertainty<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ryan Brierley to stand side by side with Salford Red Devils\u2019 fans<\/p>\n<p>Having previously announced their plans and teasing that a \u2018special guest\u2019 would be joining, it\u2019s now officially been announced by fan group The 1873 that former skipper Brierley is said special guest.<\/p>\n<p>A new post from the group on social media announced: \u201cWe are excited to confirm former club captain &amp; boyhood Salford fan Ryan Brierley will be joining us on Thursdays march, to say thank you to the supporters who\u2019ve stood by and backed him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s one of our own. Let\u2019s make it a night to remember. See you all there! The 1873\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whilst a number of games have had unreported attendances, the largest at a Salford home game so far this year came in Round Two when the club hosted Leeds Rhinos having just had their salary cap lifted.<\/p>\n<p>That game drew 5,798 fans but the most recently reported attendance was only 2,051, ironically in a game that they won as they defeated Castleford in July.<\/p>\n<p>With the fan protest expected to draw large numbers and fans eager to support their side and make their voices heard, a crowd far larger than that is expected.<\/p>\n<p>The Red Devils had earlier confirmed their<a href=\"https:\/\/www.seriousaboutrl.com\/salford-red-devils-team-news-as-nine-loanees-named-and-star-man-returns-for-catalans-dragons-clash-108013\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> 21-man squad with nine loan players<\/a> named once again as well as recent recruits Jack Walker and Isaac Shaw, with Salford also welcoming back Esan Marsters.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">We are excited to confirm former club captain &amp; boyhood Salford fan Ryan Brierley will be joining us on Thursdays march, to say thank you to the supporters who\u2019ve stood by and backed him.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s one of our own \u2764\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s make it a night to remember.
