The Great British Bake Off has returned, and viewers seemed to all be in agreement that the show made a “harsh decision” in the first episode.<\/p>\n

The hit Channel 4 competition, which moved over from the BBC<\/a> back in 2017, first aired in 2010. While it’s had a fair few changes over the last decade and a half, the cosiness of GBBO has stayed the same.<\/p>\n

With the new 2025 series airing from Tuesday September 2, the tent welcomes 12 amateur bakers once more as they battle it out for ten weeks.<\/p>\n

Every episode the main theme will change. Previous years has seen chocolate week, bread week, and pastry week. However, the three challenges will stay the same: the Signature, the Technical and the Showstopper.<\/p>\n

Sadly, one baker will be eliminated every week if their bake didn’t quite meet the judges expectations. On the flip side, one lucky contestant will be named Star Baker.<\/p>\n

With the winner of the 2025 series still weeks away, viewers may recall that the winner of The Great British Bake Off 2024 was Georgie Grasso.<\/p>\n

She was the first Welsh winner to be crowned after ten weeks of fierce competition.<\/p>\n

However, for the bakers during Tuesday’s (September 2) installment, the final seemed a world away as they battled through the technical.<\/p>\n

With their first challenge of making a patterned swiss roll behind them, the bakers were tasked with making fondant fancies in the Technical challenge.<\/p>\n

However, they introduced a twist where they had different ingredients in front of them, but not all were meant for the recipe. They also gave the bakers a fondant fancy to taste test and look at to figure out what they need to do.<\/p>\n

With the bakers heads in their hands out of frustration, viewers took to X (formerly known as Twitter<\/a>) as they shared the same thought – that it’s a harsh challenge in the first week.<\/p>\n

@aama25_em wrote: “The technical is so ridiculously hard this week” as @bwench88 added: “Oooh that\u2019s a harsh technical for week one\u2026I love it!”<\/p>\n

Another viewer @jessiehxsking agreed: “this is one mean technical challenge” and @kitkat966 echoed: “Giving them extra ingredients is evil\u2026 I love it!”<\/p>\n

Tom found himself in last place for the first technical, whereas Toby was crowned the winner for the challenge.
