Take-Two was reportedly in discussions to save Xbox\u2019s canceled Perfect Dark reboot, but negotiations recently collapsed over details of a potential deal.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s according to Bloomberg\u2019s Jason Schreier<\/a>, who reports that the collapse of talks between Microsoft<\/a>, Take-Two<\/a>, and Crystal Dynamics<\/a> owner Embracer<\/a> resulted in an unspecified number of layoffs at Crystal Dynamics last month.<\/p>\n Crystal Dynamics was co-developing Perfect Dark<\/a> alongside California-based The Initiative<\/a> before the game was\u00a0<\/a>canceled in July<\/a>, and its developer closed as part of a sweeping layoff\u00a0across Microsoft.<\/p>\n The game, a remake of the classic spy shooter from developer Rare<\/a>, was\u00a0announced in 2020<\/a> and featured in last summer\u2019s Xbox Summer Showcase<\/a>.<\/p>\n According to Bloomberg\u2019s sources, Take-Two was in discussions with Microsoft and Embracer to fund and publish the game, but the deal collapsed in part because the companies were unable to come to terms over long-term ownership of the\u00a0Perfect Dark\u00a0franchise.<\/p>\n Representatives for Embracer, Xbox<\/a>, and Take-Two all declined to comment.<\/p>\n
