In the meantime, it is crucial that it remains ready and available as a potential BCP facility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in the Welsh parliament in June, <a href=\"https:\/\/record.senedd.wales\/Plenary\/15150#C690438\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth said<\/a> Wales needed \u201can assurance from Westminster that the Welsh government will be compensated for its contribution to the project and that any funding that\u2019s required to repurpose this site for future use will also be paid in full by the Treasury.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-2221943956-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7092417\"  \/>In June, just one month after the U.K.-EU summit, Wales\u2019 Deputy First Minister Huw Irranca-Davies said they would not proceed with the final commissioning and staffing of the BCP after all. | Matthew Horwood\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Across the Irish Sea in Northern Ireland, similar concerns are being raised over the future of the region\u2019s BCPs in Belfast, Foyle, Larne and Warrenpoint, where food and plants shipped from Great Britain are inspected.
