The Scottish high street has seen a wave of closures<\/a> recently. Whether it be rising rent rates or a slump in sales, there are many reasons why many big names have permanently shuttered recently.<\/p>\n

Among them will be Cardzone, with the high street chain announcing that one of its branches based in a busy Glasgow<\/a> shopping centre will officially cease trading in just over one week.<\/p>\n

The card and gifting retailer’s store at the city’s Fort Shopping Centre will be permanently closing its doors on Sunday, September 14, reports the Glasgow Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A notice placed in the store’s window based in the East End shopping complex notified the public about the devastating news, confirming when the final day of trading will be.<\/p>\n

The sign simply read: “We close on September 14.”<\/p>\n

So far, no reason has been provided for the store closure and the Daily Record has approached Cardzone for a comment.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the branch based in the Glasgow shopping centre features “closing down” advertisements, with the retailer<\/a> offering up to 50 per cent off as “everything must go.”<\/p>\n

Established in 2005, Cardzone is a family-run business that was found by Paul Taylor in Sheffield. As of today, the card retailer operates over 175 branches across Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n

The greetings card company became a popular go-to for gifting, as it offers popular items from big name brands such as Yankee Candle, Thorntons, and Disney, to name a few.<\/p>\n

It’s not the only retailer based at the Glasgow Fort to be affected recently, as Bodycare’s branch based in the same shopping centre is at risk of closing down, with the firm facing administration<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The health and beauty chain, which operates 18 stores across Scotland, is looking for a last-minute buyer as it works with advisory firm Interpath exploring options for the business over the last few months.<\/p>\n

There’s been a wave of closures across the high street recently, with many big name retailers undergoing restructuring plans amidst customers’ shopping habits switching to online in recent years.<\/p>\n

Fashion chain River Island<\/a> is also set to close down its Edinburgh store located on the iconic Princes Street this week on Friday, September 5, with the firm confirming it would be shuttering a total of 33 stores.<\/p>\n

This includes a further five in Scotland – Cumbernauld, Falkirk, Kilmarnock, Kirkcaldy and Perth, although there has been no given date for these closures as of yet.<\/p>\n

Multiple Poundland stores across Scotland have also been shuttered over the past few months, as the struggling discounter undergoes restructuring plans to “refocus and simplify” its brand following its sale earlier this year.<\/p>\n
