The wedding of <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instyle.com\/prince-william-diana-award-kate-middleton-8609611\" link-destination-recommendation=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prince William<\/a> and <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instyle.com\/kate-middleton-qatar-state-visit-8754169\" link-destination-recommendation=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kate Middleton<\/a>, where Harry\u2019s best man speech left Kate with \u201ca tear in her eye,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/royals\/article-15039793\/Prince-Harrys-perfect-best-man-speech-Prince-William-Kate-Middleton.html\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily Mail<\/a> reported. It was reported on in royal biographer Christopher Andersen\u2019s book Brothers and Wives, and Andersen wrote that in his toast the evening of April 29, 2011, Harry apologized to Kate \u201cfor having to marry a bald man\u201d and delivered perfect impressions of his older brother \u201ccooing down the line at Babykins,\u201d which is William\u2019s reported nickname for his wife.\n<\/p>\n<p> Kate Middleton and Prince William on their April 29, 2011 wedding day.<\/p>\n<p>Getty<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_7-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Kate, for her part, calls William \u201cBilly,\u201d according to the book, and at the reception Harry repeatedly called the newlyweds \u201cthe dude and the duchess,\u201d referring likely to William and Kate\u2019s newly minted titles of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, which they received from <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instyle.com\/kate-middleton-chemotherapy-video-queen-elizabeth-land-rover-8709879\" link-destination-recommendation=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Queen Elizabeth<\/a> on their wedding day. (The two are now Prince and Princess of Wales following King Charles taking the throne in 2022.)\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_9-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Referring to their mother <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instyle.com\/princess-diana-unexpected-mantra-when-marriage-prince-charles-became-difficult-11729099\" link-destination-recommendation=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Princess Diana<\/a>\u2014who died in 1997, when William was 15 years old and Harry 12 years old\u2014Andersen wrote, \u201cThere were muffled sobs when Harry told his brother, \u2018Our mother would be so very proud of you,\u2019 and sighs when he said he loved Kate like a sister.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p> Prince Harry, Kate Middleton, and Prince William.<br \/>\nChris Jackson\/Getty<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_12-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> \u201cAt one point, the bride wiped away tears when her newly minted brother-in-law traded smiles with Chelsy [Davy, his girlfriend at the time] and admitted that Kate and William\u2019s decade-long romance was his \u2018inspiration,\u2019\u201d Andersen continued.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_14-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> It was Davy, Andersen reported, that helped Harry smooth out his best man speech\u2014including removing a line about Kate\u2019s \u201ckiller legs.\u201d As the night ended and fireworks were set off above Buckingham Palace, \u201cHarry put his arms around William and Kate and began to weep,\u201d Andersen wrote. \u201cSoon the best man and the bride were helping brush away each other\u2019s tears while a bemused and thoroughly dry-eyed William looked on.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p> Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Getty Images<\/p>\n<p> Kate Middleton and Prince Harry.<\/p>\n<p>Getty Images<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_20-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> \u201cPeople don\u2019t realize how much Harry and Kate love and help each other,\u201d a guest said of the touching moment. \u201cIt\u2019s key to this whole thing.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_22-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Watching Harry\u2019s estrangement with his brother has been \u201chard and sad,\u201d former head of communications for both brothers Jason Knauf said earlier this year.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_24-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> \u201cWe have ups and downs in family,\u201d he added. \u201cEven when you really love someone, you can have times when you don\u2019t want to spend that much time with them.
