There are shops in the background.\" class=\"sc-d1200759-0 dvfjxj\"\/>BBC<\/p>\n<p>The wooden sculpture was created in 2023 to represent Somerset&#8217;s dragon symbol<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Several parts of a &#8220;much-loved&#8221; wooden sculpture of the Somerset dragon have been sawn off.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The dragon statue on Taunton&#8217;s High Street is missing an arm, toes, an ear and its tongue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Somerset Council says it believes the sculpture, which was unveiled in 2023, has been targeted by vandals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">A spokesperson said it is currently reviewing the best course of action with regard to repairs.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/grey-placeholder.png\" class=\"sc-d1200759-0 dkIvM hide-when-no-script\" aria-label=\"image unavailable\"\/><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/edb1fe30-88a2-11f0-8b3f-67b2e7d47fb0.jpg.webp.webp\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"The picture was taken underneath the dragon. The picture was taken on a cloudy day.\" class=\"sc-d1200759-0 dvfjxj\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The wooden dragon sculpture is missing a limb, tongue and toes<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The 13ft (4 m) high wooden dragon was created by chainsaw artist Matthew Crabb to reference the county&#8217;s folklore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">It was commissioned by the former Somerset and West Taunton Council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Mr Crabb&#8217;s friend and fellow chainsaw artist Simon O&#8217;Rourke said: &#8220;He created this sculpture to make something really nice for the town.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Mr O&#8217;Rourke added: &#8220;It&#8217;s not a straightforward repair.
