{"id":395271,"date":"2025-09-03T19:05:17","date_gmt":"2025-09-03T19:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/395271\/"},"modified":"2025-09-03T19:05:17","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T19:05:17","slug":"dwp-told-to-end-triple-lock-and-scrap-state-pensions-for-incomes-over-50000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/395271\/","title":{"rendered":"DWP told to &#8216;end Triple Lock&#8217; and &#8216;scrap state pensions for incomes over \u00a350,000&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At 10,000 signatures, the government will respond to this petition and at 100,000 signatures, this petition will be considered for debate in Parliament.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/0_dwp2.jpg\" alt=\"DWP told to 'end Triple Lock' and 'scrap state pensions for incomes over \u00a350,000'\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>DWP told to &#8216;end Triple Lock&#8217; and &#8216;scrap state pensions for incomes over \u00a350,000&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Department for Work and Pensions has been told to scrap the Triple Lock in a radical shake-up &#8211; and spend the savings from the axed policy on UNIVERSITY STUDENTS.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A petition on the Parliamentary website tells the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/dwp\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">DWP<\/a> and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/labour-party\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Labour Party<\/a> government: &#8220;We urge the Government to review existing state pension entitlements and introduce the following reforms: 1) end the triple lock 2) reduce entitlements for those on existing private defined benefit schemes with an income \u00a320,000 + 3) end state pensions for incomes over \u00a350k.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;We urge the Government to use additional money from these reforms to fund scrapping tuition fees for students. Current state pension benefits cost nearly \u00a3150 billion a year \u2013 we believe this is unsustainable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/motoring\/motoring-news\/new-pay-per-mile-car-32399145\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">READ MORE New pay-per-mile car taxes with drivers facing initial 1p rate<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;We believe those with the broadest shoulders should support an approach which keeps the Chancellor within her borrowing limits and protects priority departments, like the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/nhs\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">NHS<\/a> &amp; Defence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;We believe young people need more help. We believe \u00a350k in debt for students is too much.&#8221; 10,000 signatures is required to get a government response.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">At 10,000 signatures, the government will respond to this petition and at 100,000 signatures, this petition will be considered for debate in Parliament.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The petition was created by David Matthews. All petitions run for 6 months. This petition has a 28 February, 2026, deadline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Petitions which reach 100,000 signatures are almost always debated.
