Police detected a vehicle being driven at speeds of over 100mph twice on the same day on two different roads.<\/p>\n

It was one of seven incidents when motorists were caught driving over 100mph<\/a> on Northern Irish roads over the course of the August bank holiday weekend from August 23 to 25.<\/p>\n

During the three day period, 2,100 motoring offences were detected by officers and road safety camera vans<\/a>, with 1,950 of these being for speeding.<\/p>\n

Of these, one vehicle was detected twice on the same day \u2013 driven at 122mph on the A6 Toome to Castledawson stretch of road, and travelling at 100mph on Moneynick Road.<\/p>\n

Some of the other offences detected include dangerous driving, drink\/drug driving, no insurance, careless driving, using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a seatbelt and not having a valid MOT certificate.<\/p>\n

To date this year, 31 people have died on Northern Ireland\u2019s roads as a result of collisions.<\/p>\n

Superintendent Jonathan Wilson from the Police Service of Northern Ireland\u2019s Operational Support Department<\/a> said: \u201cThe figures from the bank holiday weekend are simply shocking. Too many people aren’t taking road safety seriously, regardless of the potential consequences. Far too many drivers are putting their lives and other roads users lives at risk.\u201d Superintendent Wilson added: \u201cEveryone using our roads needs to be mindful of their own safety and the safety of everyone around them. To all drivers, our message is remember the fatal five – don\u2019t drink or take drugs and drive; slow down; don\u2019t be careless; always wear your seat belt and never use your mobile phone while driving.”<\/p>\n
